Paper on STAR Oceanography in "Remote Sensing"

This past week a group of STAR scientists published a new article - Satellite Oceanography in NOAA highlighting STAR products and research in satellite oceanography. The article appeared in Remote Sensing and details STAR's ongoing research commitments to user-facing product development in oceanographic remote sensing.

STAR Air Quality at AGU

12/18/2023 -

Dr. Shobha Kondragunta and her team actively participated in the AGU 2023 Fall Meeting giving presentations on GeoXO air quality value studies, the impact of 2023 Canadian Wildfires on U.S. Air Quality, and other air quality issues. Discussions with NASA and other international organizations were focused on a new air quality mission to monitor air quality over anticipated new mega cities in Africa and South America that currently have a big gap in observations. Dr. Kondragunta will co-lead the writing of a white paper on the need for a geostationary air quality mission over Africa as part of her leadership role in the Committee of Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Atmospheric Composition Virtual Constellation.

2024 NOAA David Johnson Award

On December 12, 2023, The National Space Club & Foundation honored Bill with the 2024 NOAA David Johnson Award.

The award is given annually to recognize achievements of young professionals who have shown outstanding innovation in the use of satellite data for operational environmental applications.

NOAA CoastWatch Annual Meeting Scheduled

The CoastWatch Annual Meeting is set for 20-24 May 2024 in College Park, Maryland. Registration and agenda coming early 2024. The meeting will be held in person in College Park, MD in the NCWCP building conference area and auditorium. In keeping with tradition (a Regional Node hosts every-other year, alternating with NCWCP), NOAA CoastWatch Program leadership will be the hosts and updates from the SOCD Science Teams will feature prominently on the agenda. Details and block agenda will follow by January, but please save the date now.
