STAR / SMCD / OPDB - NOAA Products Validation System (NPROVS)
NPROVS Overview
NPROVS produces daily files containing collocated data from a variety of satellite, forecast, and radiosonde sources. The collocation system, which runs every day, attempts to match every available satellite footprint and forecast grid point to a time and location that is typically that of the radiosonde launches for that day.
NPROVS is currently divided into two collocation groups. The first group, NPROVS Conventional,
collocates data with all available global radiosonde launches. The second group, NPROVS Special,
collocates data with a subset of global radiosonde launches that are often launched to coincide with a
satellite overpass. Some radiosondes in NPROVS Special are part of campaigns such as the Aerosols
and Ocean Science Expedition (AEROSE).
