STAR Celebrates The launch of GOES U
from the NASA Kennedy Space Center
June 25, 2024 - GOES U is the last satellite in the GOES-R Series which provides advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements, real-time mapping of lightning activity, and space weather observations.
The world is currently experiencing a global coral bleaching event,
the fourth global event on record and the second in the last 10 years.
"From February 2023 to April 2024, significant coral bleaching
has been documented in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres
of each major ocean basin," said Derek Manzello, Ph.D., NOAA
Coral Reef Watch coordinator.
